What exactly is TheraLens®?
TheraLens is a therapeutic microprism treatment system built specifically to treat Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) — a condition where your eyes are slightly misaligned, causing symptoms like headaches, dizziness, and anxiety. It’s not a regular pair of glasses. It’s part of a structured treatment plan where your specialist prescribes, monitors, and fine-tunes your microprism lenses over time for the best possible symptom relief.
How is it different from regular prism glasses?
TheraLens is manufactured to more than double the industry standard for precision, uses proprietary technology to eliminate the distortion, and includes a two-phase treatment process with a follow-up visit to refine your prescription. Standard prism lenses weren’t designed for NeuroVisual Treatment — TheraLens is. Many patients who didn’t get relief from previous prism prescriptions can find real improvement with TheraLens.
Will they look like normal glasses?
Yes. TheraLens microprism lenses are made to fit into whatever frames you choose, just like any other prescription lens. The microprism correction is built into the lens itself — no one can tell by looking at them.
What is a NeuroVisual® Evaluation?
It’s a specialized eye exam that goes beyond a standard vision test. It measures the micro-misalignments between your two eyes — the kind of thing a regular eye exam doesn’t check for. Your specialist uses this information to create a customized TheraLens prescription for your specific alignment issue.
How do I know if I have BVD?
Common signs include chronic headaches, dizziness, motion sickness, light sensitivity, anxiety, reading difficulty, neck pain, and eye fatigue. If these symptoms haven’t responded to other treatments, BVD could be the cause. A NeuroVisual® Evaluation is the most reliable way to find out. We also have a symptom questionnaire on our website that can help you gauge your likelihood before booking. Click here to start the symptom questionnaire.
Can I have BVD if I have 20/20 vision?
Absolutely. 20/20 means you can see clearly at a distance. BVD is about whether your two eyes are properly aligned and working together as a team, which is a completely different thing. Many BVD patients have been told their eyes are “fine” for years before finding answers through a NeuroVisual® Evaluation.
Can children be treated with TheraLens?
Yes. BVD can affect kids too, and it often shows up as reading trouble, attention problems, or frequent headaches. TheraLens can be prescribed for children after a NeuroVisual® Evaluation. Just mention your child’s age and symptoms when you contact us.
I tried prism lenses before and they didn’t work. Should I still try TheraLens?
Definitely worth exploring. Standard prism lenses weren’t designed for NeuroVisual Treatment, and most aren’t manufactured with the precision that microprism treatment requires. TheraLens uses a much higher level of manufacturing precision and a two-phase treatment process that standard prism doesn’t offer. Many patients who didn’t respond to conventional prism prescriptions find lasting relief through TheraLens.
Is TheraLens covered by insurance?
Coverage varies by plan. Many patients use out-of-network vision benefits, HSA, or FSA accounts to help with the cost. The NeuroVisual® Evaluation may also be partially covered under medical insurance in some cases. Our team can help you understand your options before your appointment.
Why does treatment involve more than one pair of lenses?
For a similar reason that braces need to be adjusted over time as your teeth become more aligned, your eyes need time to relax and adjust before your specialist can dial in the final prescription. Most new patients get a starter pair, then a refined pair about a month later. This two-step approach consistently produces better, longer-lasting symptom relief than a single prescription for patients with BVD.
Can I get extra pairs for sunglasses or computer use?
Yes. Once your TheraLens prescription is established, your specialist can order additional pairs — like sun lenses or a dedicated computer pair — with your therapeutic prism correction built in. Ask about options at your follow-up visit.
How quickly will I feel relief?
Many patients feel meaningful improvement during their very first trial fitting. Most notice significant relief within the first week or two. Full results typically come after the refined pair — patients frequently report 80% or greater symptom reduction.
Is the relief permanent?
Most patients maintain excellent relief with ongoing TheraLens use and an annual NeuroVisual® check-up. Like any prescription, your lenses may need updating over time. The goal is long-term comfort and stability, not just temporary symptom management.
What if my symptoms come back?
Contact our practice. Sometimes a follow-up exam is needed — especially if something has changed, like a new injury, medication, or illness. This is a normal part of long-term care, and we’re here to help.
